A garbage truck caught on fire Tuesday morning, completely halting traffic on an East Bay freeway in Contra Costa County, the California Highway Patrol said.

Black smoke was visible after the garbage truck caught flames while on northbound Interstate 680 near the northbound Highway 242 split about 9:15 a.m. The truck was fully loaded, according to the CHP.
At 9:45 a.m., all northbound lanes of I-680 at the split were shut down. The CHP shut down the far two left southbound lanes about 15 minutes later.
Crews from the Contra Costa Fire Protection District were at the scene.
There were no reported injuries.
