The Union Pacific Police Department is investigating the fatality at Leavesley and Monterey roads.

GILROY – A freight train hit and killed a female pedestrian Tuesday morning in Gilroy, according to authorities.

The collision was reported around 8:45 a.m. at Leavesley and Monterey roads, the Gilroy Police Department said in an advisory.

First responders performed life-saving measures, but she died from her injuries, police said. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release her identity once it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.

The Union Pacific Police Department is investigating the collision with help from the coroner’s office.
