Deputies shot a man suspected of stabbing one woman to death and injuring another at a Lake Forest apartment complex on Sunday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responding to reports of a stabbing arrived shortly after 12:15 p.m. at a complex in the 21000 block of Osterman Road to find a woman who appeared to have been stabbed several times outside of an apartment, Sgt. Frank Gonzalez said.
The deputies were directed to a specific apartment unit, where they made contact with a man in his 20s suspected of carrying out the stabbing, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Department statement.
A little less than 15 minutes after deputies arrived, according to the sheriff statement, “an officer involved shooting occurred,” and the man was shot and injured.
Authorities have released few details about the police shooting, including whether the man was armed or threatening any deputies or civilians. No deputies were reported injured.
The deputies found a second woman inside the apartment, also suffering from stab wounds, Gonzalez said.
The man and the injured woman found outside the apartment were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.
The woman found inside the apartment was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the OCSD statement.
The man and the two women are believed to be related, according to the sheriff’s statement. Their names have not been released.
It was not immediately clear whether any of them lived in the apartment complex where the stabbings and police shooting apparently took place.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting, as is routine for shootings involving law enforcement.
