OAKLAND — A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Friday night in East Oakland, authorities said.

His name has not yet been released, but he is believed to be an Oakland resident, police said.

The man was found shot about 11:40 p.m. Friday outside in a parking lot in the 2700 block of East 12th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the killing and have not made any arrests.

The killing is the 80th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 83 homicides in the city. Oakland has seen three straight years of triple-digit homicides, hitting a 15-year high in 2021 of 134 before dipping to a still-high 120 in 2022.
