Plastic foodware ordinance
An ordinance to reduce the use of single-use plastic foodware items went into effect in Cupertino on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The ordinance applies to cafes, restaurants and other food and beverage providers and restricts use of single-use plastic cups, containers and utensils. Food purveyors are required to provide items made from paper, paperboard, wood, bamboo and bagasse. Fiber-based foodware can be put into green organics waste carts and bins in Cupertino to be processed into compost. The ordinance also requires reusable foodware for dining in.

Citywide Garage Sale
Cupertino residents can find their next hidden treasure, help keep stuff out of the landfill and get to know their neighbors during the annual Citywide Garage Sale Sept. 23-24, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
More than 200 households participate in the sale every year. Common items sold at garage sales include used clothing, books, toys, household decorations, sports equipment, board games, furniture and appliances.
Shopping maps will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 19, at cupertino.org/garagesale.
Cybersecurity public education
Join the City of Cupertino and the Technology, Information and Communications Commission on Sept. 16 for a two-part cyber fair and panel presentation to learn about cybersecurity and avoid becoming a victim.
Doors open at 9 a.m. at Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave. A panel discussion and question-and answer session are set for 9:30 a.m., followed by a science fair from 11 a.m. to noon.
