A man driving a stolen vehicle was killed Sunday in Oakland when he collided with another driver's vehicle, police said.

OAKLAND — A 34-year-old Castro Valley man died Sunday evening when the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle in East Oakland, police said.

The man’s name was not immediately released by police.

The collision happened about 5:44 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Church Street.

Police said the stolen vehicle was traveling at high speed westbound in the 6800 block of Foothill Boulevard when it failed to stop for a red light and collided with a car that had the green light and was going northbound on Church Street.

The Castro Valley man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Police did not say where the vehicle he was driving was stolen from or when it had been reported stolen.

Police did not say if the driver of the other vehicle was injured.

Police traffic investigators were working to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in what happened.
