Oakland firefighters battled a vegetation fire Monday afternoon that quickly threatened homes in East Oakland.

The two-alarm blaze, which began at about 4 p.m. and grew to about an acre after less than a half hour, was located near the 7800 block of Outlook Avenue, according to Michael Hunt, an Oakland Fire Department spokesman. Multiple houses were threatened, but none of them been damaged, as of 4:20 p.m., he said.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear.
