Serra isn’t waiting until next season’s Open Division state championship game to take another swing at one of Southern California’s two superpowers.
Nine days before playing Mater Dei-Santa Ana for this year’s Open state title, the San Mateo powerhouse announced on social media that it will play host to St. John Bosco-Bellflower on Sept. 14 to close out next year’s non-league schedule.
The Padres will open at Folsom on Aug. 30 and visit De La Salle on Sept. 6 before playing the Southern California team that rolled over Serra 45-0 in last year’s Open Division state championship game.
Serra won at Folsom and DLS last season and was unbeaten before getting overpowered by Bosco.
The Padres defeated Folsom and DLS again this season, both in San Mateo, on their way to another unbeaten season and a fourth consecutive championship in the Central Coast Section’s top division.
Mater Dei beat Bosco 35-7 in last week’s Southern Section Division I championship game to secure its spot against Serra.
